Would maintain fiscal stability and essential City services, including 911 emergency response, police and fire protection; repairing streets/fixing potholes; tracking/investigating crime; addressing homeless encampments/affordable housing needs; natural disaster/emergency preparation; maintaining neighborhood parks/public infrastructure, shall the measure continuing the existing voter-approved ¼-cent sales tax be adopted, providing approximately $7,000,000 annually for eight additional years, requiring independent audits, public disclosure, and all funds controlled locally. Measure J requires at least 55% of voters approving to pass.

Fiscal Impact: The Measure F Tax currently generates approximately $7 million in revenues per year. Because the tax rate will not change during the additional period, the City estimates that annual revenues from the reauthorized tax will be similar.

Supporters argue that Measure J continues locally controlled funding voters already approved for essential services and programs, all without raising taxes! We need Measure J to maintain rapid response times for 911 calls to police, fire, and paramedics which are critical for stopping crime, protecting victims, and saving lives. Yes on J maintains our neighborhood patrols and officers on the street to keep Milpitas safe for our families and businesses and supports:

  • Maintaining police protection and tracking/investigating crime
  • Addressing homeless encampments
  • Maintaining fire protection services
  • Maintaining neighborhood parks/public infrastructure

A YES vote on this measure means that you support continuing the existing voter-approved ¼-cent sales tax.

A NO vote on this measure means that you do not support continuing the exciting voter-approved ¼-cent sales tax.

In Depth

In 2020, Milpitas voters approved the City of Milpitas Public Services Measure to fund local services and goods. This voter-approved funding provides $7 million a year in locally controlled funding that is necessary to maintain the high quality of life you expect and deserve. However, this funding is set to expire soon. If no action is taken, the City will lose this local funding and may need to reduce and cut services, affecting our quality of life, ability to attract and retain local businesses, and achieve long term fiscal stability.

Measure J would maintain fiscal stability and essential City services, including 911 emergency response, police and fire protection; repairing streets/fixing potholes; tracking/investigating crime; addressing homeless encampments/affordable housing needs; natural disaster/emergency preparation; maintaining neighborhood parks/public infrastructure, shall the measure continuing the existing voter-approved ¼-cent sales tax be adopted, providing approximately $7,000,000 annually for eight additional years, requiring independent audits, public disclosure, and all funds controlled locally. Measure J requires at least 55% of voters approving to pass.

If reauthorized, Measure J may provide funding to allow the City to continue investing in repairing streets, potholes, and cracked sidewalks. Since approval by voters in 2020, in addition to street infrastructure repairs, local funding has been used to support public safety services, including: maintaining neighborhood patrols, paying on-duty officers, and maintaining rapid 911 emergency response times.
